    Re: Computer Software, K-5

I teach Computer Skills in an elementary school for grades K-5. In the lab, students use SuccessMaker, a program that places emphasis on Reading, Math, and Science. This program is setup by grade level. There are also reports available for teachers to analyze the student performance.

    Re: Computer Software, K-5

I'm teacher in HK and I used to teach K-5 kids. I always avoid PowerPoint since not all of my pupils can watch it on their own computers, so I started to convert my PPT / PPTX to MP4 or FLV and upload to YouTube.edu for wider sharing they can enjoy it easily. I'v tried many PowerPoint converter and at last the one called PPT2video is my favorite. I hope it can help.

    Regards

    Re: Computer Software, K-5, USA

    Hi Camille,

My school has purchased a powerful program called, "StudyIsland".  It is a wonderful tool to help at school or home.  I use it as a learning tool by giving Home Work assignments.   You put your class list in the program and sit back and wait for the report.   I have a weekly report emailed to me every Friday.  I can tell who has been working, their grade, etc.  The best thing about it is that the children LOVE it.

There are games, but they have to get the answer correct before they get to continue the games.  Parents love that their children are learning and not just playing around.

Meanwhile, StudyIsland prepares them for their Spring testing.   Each grade level has the program and it is purchased by grade levels.  I believe it was around 1,300 per site. However, all the teachers are on board with the concept that this is truly an amazing program.  Hope you get the opportunity to get it.

    Regards,

    Julie

    Re: Computer Software, USA

I have been desperately trying to get my county to purchase a license for Education City. It consists of web-based games in the areas of language, math and science. We had a 30-day trial and I got over 50 emails from teachers and admins who loved it.

    Re: Computer Software, USA

Hi! I teach 3rd grade and I recently purchased Books By You by Knowledge Adventure (hosted by John Lithgow). This is an interactive reading/writing storyboard program. It is awesome! I recommend it for grades 3-5, maybe 2nd grade as well. Basically, this software provides four story templates which can be edited (text and pictures) by the students. The stories can then be printed or even published on-line; also bound and printed "professionally" for purchase! I purchased this software through Scholastic Book Clubs--about $15.00--and installed it on multiple PCs. They work on their stories during centers or free-time. The kids love it! Hope this info helps! Good luck~Tamara Simms

I am a teacher in China at an International school. I use Storybook Weaver to have my kids create their own stories and illustrate them. They really like it.

    Computer Software, K-5

I am currently heading up a team of teachers looking for "good" software to implement in the classrooms. My school consists of grades K-5, and we would like to put the emphasis on Science. Reading, and Math are also requirements. If anyone knows of any good software programs for any of the grades please let me know. Thanks Camille
